District Governor Visits Local Lions
Club
The Kensington Lions Club met for the
first meeting of the year on Monday,
Jan. 2 at the Kensington Community
Center. President Mike Isom introduced
the 17-L District Governor Rogers of the
Hugoton Lions. Governor 'Rogers gave his
annual visitation report and reviewed
some of the goals of the Kansas and
International Lions. These included
planting over a million trees worldwide
and many more have been planted this
year. The Yellow Dot Program which
promotes the placing of medical records
in your autos was also presented. This
aids in the case of an accident.
The Lions have also encouraged sight
screening for many years, but this year
the emphasis is on the very young as
most sight problems develop before the
age of six. The program of diabetes
screening is also an ongoing project.
The Governor gave a short history of the
Kensington Club. It was chartered in
May, 1959, and still has four active
chartered members, Dale Detwiler, Roy
Wangerin, J.S. Wagner, and Martin
Stenseng. He installed a new member,
Paul Pintor, to the Club. The Club
thanked the Women of the St. John
Lutheram Church for serving the meals
since September. The Women of the United
Church will be serving February through
August.
The next meeting will be Monday,
February, 7. The Ldies and Firemen and
EMS will be guests for the evening.
Bruce Hardacre and Max Kuhlmann are in
charge of the program. Submitted by J.S.

Eleven cousins, a bus load of relatives
from Colorado Springs, her children, Bob
and Libby Anthony of Corvallis, Ore.,
and Patricia and Dennis Gaschler of
Manhattan, and some of her grandchildren
were among the many relatives and
friends that gathered for a dinner at
the United Church fellowship hall on
December 26 to help Mary Anthony
celebrate her 100th birthday. It was the
climax of numerous smaller celebrations
for Mary's special day. She also
received many cards and telephone calls.
Her children, Bob and Libby and Patricia
and Dennis, took Mary out for dinner in
Phillipsburg on her actual birthday on
Dec. 22, and some of her grandchildren
that could not come for the celebration
were present.

Three things to think about in 2012
Three words that never come back--Words.
time, and opportunity.
Three things that can destroy a
person--Anger, pride, and unforgiveness
Three things that you should never
lose--Hope, peace, and honesty.
Three things most valuable--Love, family
and friends, and kindness
Three things never certain--Fortune,
success and dreams
Three things that make a
person--Commitment, sincerity and hard
work
Three things that are truly
constant--Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

gathering.
The weather for the forepart of January
has been unbelievable with temps in the
50s and 60s with no moisture. There were
very light snow flurries Sunday noon but
no accumulation. A cold front with
strong winds and possible light snow is
forecasted for Wednesday. It is winter
and a good idea to keep a heavy coat,
hat and gloves available as weather
changes can happen suddenly. Enjoy the
nice weather, but we know winter
moisture and the inconvenience of snow
are necessary to produce summer crops.
