After the community meeting closed the
board met to make plans for 2012. It was
decided that when the Foundation’s CD’s
matured , Dixie would write a check to
our organizational fund with the Smith

decided that the board would meet at
least quarterly with the next meeting

Trying New Evening Library Hours
Since there are so many school
activities on Tuesday evenings
(basketball games, concerts, meetings,
programs, etc.) the Kensington
Community/School Library will be open
extended hours on Wednesday until 7 p.m.
instead of Tuesday evening on a trial
basis. They hope more people and
students will be able to make use of the
Library facilities at that time. Parents
can deliver their children to Wednesday
evening church activities and come to
visit the Library. The Library will be
closed on Tuesday evenings.
Tax forms for 2011 are available at the
Library. Come in and get what you need
to file your taxes. We hope to see more
traffic in the Library on Wednesday
evenings in the future.

Food Pantry Serves Local Communities
The Kensington Food Pantry serves the
Thunder Ridge School District which
consists of te Athol, Kensington, Agra
and Kirwin areas. The Pantry has
received many generous monetary and
canned good donations from individuals,
churches, schools, businesses, and
organizations as part of their community
service. Because of these donations the
pantry has been able to assist 18
families for a total of 35 family
members last year.
The Kensington Food Pantry, the K-town
Kates, and the families who were
assisted by the pantry appreciate
everyone who helped in any way to
support these community service
projects. With all of the generous
donations last year, our pantry had a
good year. With your continued support
we will be able to assist more families.
The Kensington Food Pantry is open the
third Saturday of each month at the
Kensington Senior/Community Center
(unless the Center is rented for another
event). The hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Please

Stensengs Enjoy Holidays with Family
Martin and Florence Stenseng are home in
Kensington after their winter visit with
the Jeff and Carolyn Haresnape family in
Cary, North Carolina. Around the
Christmas dinner table were all five of
the Haresnape children, Corbin of
Washington, D.C., Sage, soon--to-be in
Physician Assistant School at Wake
Forest University, and Jonathan ,
Kathryn, and Arianna of the home. Gordon
Stenseng of Magnolia, Tex., also joined
the family for Christmas festivities.
The adults in the family enjoyed a
Rembrant portrait exhibit at the North
Carolina Museum of Art as well as a
major Smithsonian exhibit at the North
Carolina History Museum. They especially
enjoyed "The World of Rhengie Kahn"
which included such fascinating displays
of a felt "yert", the traditional
Mongolian home, and a life-sized horse

Around
the Community
The only interesting bit of news from
the local community is the unusually
beautiful January weather. Temps climbed
into the low-60's Sunday and Monday with
more unusual temps predicted for the
remainder of the week with a slight
possibility of snow Thursday. No other
major changes are in the forecast at
this time.
We apologize if you have missed
Kensington community news on our website
the last few weeks. The mother of Amy
Johnson of Phillipsburg who posts the
items on the website passed away
recently and Amy has been busy with the
many things that must be done at such a
sad time. Our sincere sympathy to Amy.
She states she will have the website up
and running by the first of this week.
Thought for the week--"People will
forget what you said, forget what you
did, but people will never forget how
you made them feel." Borrowed.
