January 1st, 2012
Early
Copy, Again
It's another one of those holiday
weekend where the news column is to be
submitted by Friday noon making it
difficult to write something worthwhile.
We will be turning over the calendar
into 2012 on Sunday before these notes
are read It is the hope that you will
have a Happy New Year with the blessings
of good health. We start with a clean
slate on January 1, but it is a daily
task to keep it that way. Regardless of
all the resolutions, they, except for
very few, quickly fall by the wayside.
The quotation from the Thunder Ridge
weekly bulletin is a good resolution for
this year. "I will honor Christmas in my
heart, and try to keep it all the year."
May God bless us all during 2012.

Beautiful
Weather
Unless you are devoted to wanting a
White Christmas, everyone has enjoyed
the beautiful weather during the
holidays. Temperatures have reached into
daytime highs in the 60's and nighttime
lows barely down below freezing.
Concerns have been heard from some
farmers that the warm temperatures could
bring the wheat out of dormancy which
probably won't happen as more normal
readings are expected next week with
highs in the 30's and 40's.
Kensington had a surprise sidewalk
dampener rain Thursday evening when a
slight cold front moved through with
strong winds.

had a broken hip and developed an
infection in it.
Aleen Schalansky continues to be a
patient at the Phillips County Hospital
for therapy and treatment.
Marlin Smith was able to return home
from the Good Samaritan Hospital in
Kearney, Neb, Saturday in time to
celebrate Christmas with his family.
It is reported that Pam Hudson had
successful surgery at the Hays Regional
Medical Center on Dec. 23. No further
information is available at this time. .
Bob, Donna, B.J., Melissa, Morgan and
Maycee Westbrook and David, Janelle and
McKenzie Grau took supper to Esther
Norden's on Christmas evening. Darrell,
Elaine and Justin Bretton went to Denver
to spend Christmas with Scott, Mindy,
Madison and Grant McDowell. Crystal
Bretton and Shirley Grauerholz were also
visitors at the McDowell home.
Mary Sweat of Kansas City spent time in
the Kensington community for Christmas.
She reports the good news that Lynda
Evans of Cheyenne, WY, moved from
Hospice into an apartment.
Leonard Schultz had Christmas dinner
with Howard and Lorena Stephens and
family. The information about Leonard's
relatives in last week's paper was
incorrect as he has sisters and other
relatives in the area. Also enjoying the
dinner at the Stephens home was Dale
Stephens, David, Daylah, and Dawson
Stephens, and Daylah's sisters, Denah
and Darah.
Marlin and Ginger Smith hosted a supper

Deb Smith; and Brock and Julie
Hutchinson and 4 children, all of Smith
Center.
While the dishes were being taken off
after dinner and before packages were
opened, Brock kept the children
entertained by giving rides on grandpa's
Gator. The only disappointment of the
day was Linda losing her camera.
Happiness reigned the next day when Gene
Conaway returned the lost camera to the
Smiths. Gene had found the lost on one
of Athol's roads. Linda had apparently
laid the camera on their car after
pictures were taken at Arthur and
Betty'si yard. Needless to say, she was
more than thrilled to get it back.
Dail and Kathy Smith from Clay Center
came to the Athol home of Arthur and
Betty Smith on Saturday. They spent
Christmas Eve, attended church Sunday
morning and helped prepare the Christmas

Hankenson and family, her mother, Mary
Cooprider; and a brother living in that
area. On Thursday they drove back to
Hays to spend the night with Dail's son,
Dustin Smith and family.

cousin, Alvin Grauerholz, 92, of Odessa,
Tex., passed away Thursday evneing, Dec.

long enough to attend Christmas eve and
morning worship. On Christmas afternoon
they drove to Thornton, Colo., to be
with their daughter and family, Tonya
and Justin Lee and boys.
Laura Bienhoff of Houston, Tex., spent
the past week with her parents and
sister, Paul and Deb Bienhoff and Leah.
