Harvest, 2010, in Full Swing
Farmers began pulling into the wheat
fields last Friday to do some sample
cutting for the 2010 harvest. Activity
began picking up Saturday and Sunday and
should be rolling full steam this week
making stubble of the ripe grain as the
days progress. Reports at the Pro Ag
Elevator in Kensington state that the
grain is dry and of good quality.
Terraces and mud holes will be left
until the ground dries further.
This week's forecast is for temperatures
in the 90's and lower humidity with
little or no precipitation. This sounds
good after almost nightly showers early
last week with the high humidity. The
temperature reaching the three-digit
mark last Saturday. It's a busy time and
everyone is urged to be careful,
including the combine operators,
truckers, and car and pedestrian
traffic.

Around
the Community
Lyle Ratliff had surgery for a broken
right shoulder last Friday in Kearney,
Neb., received in a motorcycle accident
early last week. This is bad timing for
a busy mechanic to be laid up, but he is
wished a good recovery.
Roberta Kaba enjoyed having her grandson
and family visit last week. They are
Mark and Beth Kahrs, Madeline, 8, Sarah,
7, and Samantha, 5 of St. Charles, Mo..
They brought the bikes so the girls
could ride in the freedom of a small
town, and daily swimming in the pool
near grandma's house was also enjoyed
Ann Vaughan of Manhattan was a weekend
guest of her aunt, Ruth Bienhoff. She
came especially to help her aunt, Dorine
Kuhlmann, celebrate her 80th birthday at
Prairie Haven Saturday afternoon. Rod
and Anita Hagman of Buhler were also
here to help host the party for Anita's
mother.
Independence Day will not go unnoticed
in Kensington since the fireworks are on
sale by the Thunder Ridge Cheerleaders
at the Corner Corral parking lot. The
steady "bangs" will continue until July
4th is over.
Smith County 4-Her's returned Sunday
from camp at Rock Springs near Junction
City. They left Thursday, and it was a
very hot weekend for this adventure.
Have a safe and happy July 4th and be
sure to report visitors, family
gatherings, cookouts, etc., for your
reporter.
