Rainy Week Halts Farm Work

Your correspondent hesitates to report on the rain amounts which varied so much in different locations the past week, but everyone will agree that the ground is well-saturated from almost daily thunder storms. One recorder reports that about 5.5 inches of rain have fallen during the month of June to date. No hail or excessive wind damage have been reported. But, this area was spared the torrential rains of 5-7 inches which fell in northern Phillips county Friday night. The creeks are overflowing and flooding and the terraces are full. Sunshine and drying conditions would be welcome. With the wheat harvest on the horizon in several weeks and much farm work waiting to be done before then, it's a time to "tread lightly" when talking to the farmers. (This is advice from a retired farm wife.)

Death

Beverly Borgmann, 80, formerly of the Athol/Cedar community, passed away Sunday, June 13, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital. She leaves her husband, Orville, of the Smith Center Rest Home. Funeral arrangements at the St. John Lutheran Church of Athol are pending as this is written.
