Death

Mrs. Elsie Jankovsky died January 1, 2010, at Manor Care Health Center in Peoria, Illinois. She was the second of five daughters of Anton and Mary Rehor. Around the Community

The name of the new daughter born to Joe and Kylee Levin of Merriam on Dec. 26 was incorrect last week. Her name is Rees Taylen. Steve and Deb Levin are local proud grandparents and Evelyn Levin is a great-grandmother.

Family members of Cathy Diercks are hoping she can be moved to Hays Regional Medical Center this week for further therapy and be closer to home.

Alma Wagenblast of Smith Center, formerly of Athol, is in the Smith County Hospital for treatment of bronchitis.

Students at Thunder Ridge High School report a good turn-out and lots of fun at the Winter Formal sponsored by the KAY Club in the school lunchroom last Friday Night. It was one of the coldest nights of the seasons with temps falling to zero or lower. They report that the formal sleeveless gowns were fashionable, but not the warmest for the occasion. It definitely was a "Winter" event.

It's great to see the sun out on a beautiful winter day as this column on Monday. The thermometer on the Kensington Community Store registered 40 degrees at the noon hour with a low of 24 this morning. It seems almost balmy after the extremely bitter cold last week with strong northerly winds. School was cancelled last Thursday at Thunder Ridge due to the blowing snow and extreme cold. (Consult the official temperatures readings in another section of this paper.) Needless to say, the warmer temperatures are very welcome and it's nice to be able to be back among neighbors and friends on the streets and in the businesses. Forecasters predict a week wtih average temperature. We will take it and enjoy it!!
