Around
the Community
Cathy Diercks returned to the Hays Rehab
Center last week and is busy with her
therapy. If you visit her, it is best to
do it after 2:30 p.m. when her therapy
sessions are over for the day. She
enjoys company and mail.
Dixie Hesterman is back teaching at the
elementary school part time. The
students are happy to see her although
Tara Seemann is doing a fine job during
her absence in the second grade.
Mae Wangerin was taken to the Smith
County Hospital Thursday morning and had
emergency surgery later in the day. She
is doing as well as possible.
Aleen Schalansky fell Friday evening and
after consultation in Phillipsburg
Saturday morning was transported to the
Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney,
Neb., with a cracked bone in her neck.
The family hopes she will be dismissed
back to Prairie Haven tomorrow
(Tuesday).
Roy Ferguson has had outpatient surgery
for poor circulation in his legs and
finds it hard to take time out from his
busy farm schedule.
Suzanne (Wangerin) Faulkner returned
home over the weekend after spending two
weeks in Haiti volunteering in a
doctor's clinic. She states it was a
rewarding experience to be able to help
out with the hurricane tragedies and one
day they saw over 100 patients. She
returned home earlier than planned due
to the illness of her mother, Mae
Wangerin.
Martin and Florence Stenseng returned
home last Tuesday after spending time
with their daughter Carolyn and Jeff
Haresnape and family in Cary, N.C. They
left Dec. 19 so escaped the Christmas
snowstorms and frigid temperatures. They
enjoyed the milder weather in that area.
Pat Clarke had the misfortune of having
a water pipe rupture in her house. It
did much damage in all but two rooms
before it was discovered. A crew who
specializes in these situations is doing
the cleanup. Pat was here after the
discovery, but has returned to Cheyenne,
Wyo., to attend a wedding.
Last week was foggy, dismal and dark
with temperatures hovering around
freezing. About two inches of snow fell
Thursday. Farmers stated that they
wished either the sun would shine and it
would dry the feedlots or it would be
cold enough to freeze the mud and make
feeding livestock easier. It appears the
latter will happen today (Monday) when a
cold front with strong winds moved in
reminding us that winter isn't over yet.
Lows in the single digits are predicted
the next several nights before a warmup
will return. This area escaped the snow
that fell in southern Kansas as the
front moved through over the weekend.
