Old Fashioned Saturday Night at
Kensington
All roads will lead to Kensington
Saturday evening, August 14, when
neighbors and friends will gather on
Kensington Main Street for a fun evening
of entertainment and visiting. Be sure
to bring your lawn chair. The weather
forecasters are even optimistic that
there might be a "cold front" moving
this sizzling weather out in time to
make the evening more enjoyable.
The day will start off with mud
volleyball games beginning at noon with
several teams registering for the event.
There will be no swim fest this year due
to lack of interest.
The Kiddie/hiset Parade, always a
favorite, will begin at 6:30 p.m. The
Thunder Ridge KAYS will assist. Prizes
will be awarded in various categories.
Kiddie water games will be held after
the the parade and the Nex-Tech Train
will be available for kiddie rides.
The game and food booths will open along
Main Street after the parade. All types
of good food will be available and the
Lions Club will have their usual
hamburger stand. The Legion will have a
Beer Garden.
The evening's program will begin with
the Future Sapphire Dancers, Sapphire
Dance Team, Middle School Cheerleaders,
and the Thunder Ridge High School
Cheerleaders doing dances and cheers.
Gospel music will be performed from 8:15
to 9 p.m. by the Family Tradition of
Alma, Neb. (Van Bradley is a member of
this group.)
The events will conclude with fireworks
at dusk at the Longhorn Football Field.
The Family Tradition will be playing
country music for the street dance later
in the evening to close out the fun
event. 00-*--.
The Kensington community invites
everyone to come and enjoy an evening of
visiting, good food, entertainment, or
watching the throngs of people as
families gather together for an
"old-fashioned evening" in your
hometown.

Country Corral Grand Opening is Friday
Pro-Ag announces the grand opening of
the Country Corral at the corner of
Highway 36 and Main Street on Friday,
August 13. New Cenex gas pumps have been
installed and the building has been
painted a brilliant red. Watch fliers
and advertisements for all the details.

Praise in the Park Cancelled
Because of the predicted 104 temperature
and the hungry mosquitoes to make life
miserable, the Praise in the Park
planned for Friday evening has been
cancelled. Save your special music for
the Praise and Thanksgiving worship on
Sunday evening, Nov. 21, at the St. John
Lutheran Church (North). Remember to
give praise and thanks to God in your
family setting, and perhaps more
favorable conditions will allow the
Praise in the Park to be held next
August. 2011, on the night before the
Old Fashioned Saturday Night.

Around
the Community
Lyle Kuhlmann, son of Greg and Julie
Kuhlmann, had surgery again last
Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospital
in Kearney, Neb. for the break of both
bones in his lower leg. The pins that
were put in during surgery two weeks ago
did not hold and the bones had slipped
out of alignment. Lyle will have to
start all over on the six weeks of no
weight bearing on the ankle so that
means he will start school on crutches.
After ten days they'll put on a
removable boot so he can take that off
to get into the tub or shower, but there
is to be absolutely no weight on the
leg. Lyle will be in the eighth grade at
the Thunder Ridge Middle School in Agra.
Paul and Wilda Conaway accompanied Carla
McCoy of Colby and Scott, Bailey, and
Leighton McCoy of Wichita to Dayton,
Ohio, where they attended the wedding of
Paul and Wilda's grandson, Shaun and
Molly Tilton on July 25. Shaun is the
son of Kathy (Conaway) Gardner. Wilda
took off some time from the Community
Store where she is the noonday cook of
those delicious meals.
Paul and Apryl Sweat of Thornton, Colo.,
announce the birth of their daughter,
Naomi Pearl, on July 28, 2010. She
weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz. and was 21 inches
long. Naomi has a 2 1/2 year old
brother, Martin, who is very proud of
his new sister. This is the 17th
grandchild for Denis and Wilma Swea smf
they drpve to Denver to be with Martin
while his mother was in the hospital.
Wilma stayed to help out with the new
mother and baby and Martin as Paul had
to leave for an important week long
business meeting. Denis returned home
after a few days to take care of things
on the farm before returning to Thornton
to visit several days and bring Wilma
home on Sunday, August 8. Mother and
baby are doing well.
Bob Stockton enjoyed having Chris and
Libby Thixton and their children ,
Sydney, Ryley, and Kade of Ozark, Mo.,
visit last week. Chris is a nephew of
the late Margaret Stockton. Libby
enjoyed cooking for the group, the kids
liked swimming and Kade had the joy of
riding in both the combine and tractor.
They also planned to attend the
Phillipsburg Rodeo.
Jeri Hunter says her garden is doing
well and was at the Corner Corral with
fresh garden produce several days last
week. The 2.5 inches of rain last
Tuesday night at Kirwin was a real boost
for her garden and the other crops in
the area. Lesser amounts were reported
in the Claudell area and also north of
Kensington.
Saturday overnight guests of Ruth
Bienhoff were Elton and Dot Haarberg of
Colorado Springs who were returning home
from a 3-weeks visit with relatives in
Montana, Indiana, Virginia, and
Nebraska. Ruth's son, John and Tonya
Bienhoff of Fayetteville, Arkansas,
surprised her with a visit Monday.
Joining them for lunch were Paul and
Leah Bienhoff at the Community Store.
Don and Pat Bienhoff stopped for a short
visit.
How could your reporter forget to report
the wonderful and welcome 3 inch rain
which fell in the Kensington area last
Tuesday night? With temperatures
hoverning near the century mark each
day, the corn, milo, soybeans, alfalfa,
and pastures made use of every drop to
keep the crops flourishing. The all
night thunderstorms were a surprise and
had not been predicted. With the hot
weather continuing this week, more rain
would be welcome again.
Thought for the week--Happiness is a
voyage, not a destination. There is no
better time to be happy than...NOW.
