Around
the Community
Stan Nelson, Kensington's friendly mail
man who brings the mail faithfully from
Concordia each day, had to take time off
last week after a heart catherization
revealed that it was necessary to put in
three stents. His wife, Connie, also was
absent from her duties in the school
Library for the entire week. They were
missed. Stan is making good improvement
and Connie is back at the Library.
Teresa Smith was in the hospital over
the weekend for tests and medical
evaluation. She returned home Monday,
but hated to miss the Easter worship
service at her church.
It was a busy, but exciting weekend for
Bruce, Amber, Elizabeth and Abby
Hardacre as they moved into their new
home on Highway 36. They were able to
enjoy Easter in their lovely home. Jim
Wagenblast was the builder.
Guests of Bob and Donna Westbrook on
Friday evening were David, Janelle and
McKenzie Grau and Crystal Bretton of
Colorado Springs, Scott, Mindy and
Madison McDowell of Denver, and B.J.,
Melissa, Morgan and Maycee Westbrook,
Darrell, Elaine and Justin Bretton and
Esther Norden.
Morgan, Maycee, McKenzie and Madison
attended the Easter egg hunt Saturday
afternoon
The name and picture of Julie Grauerholz
of Hays appeared in the "United States
AmeriCorp Directory-The First Fifteen
Years." She was a member of the Kansas
AmeriCorp Team from 1999 to 2001.
Easter weekend guests of Don and Janet
Hoverson were Don's sister, Sandra Black
for Garden City, and their children and
grandchildren, Lori Hoverson of Hays,
Linda McKee, Braden, Brenna, Brielle and
Brylee of Brewster, and Dan and Michelle
Hoverson, Ryan, Dylan and Nathan of
Valley Center
Weekend visitors at the home of Wayne
and Jolene Beckman were their children
and families, Andy and Lindsay Beckman,
Lexy, Logan and Gabyn of Olathe, Nick
and Stefanie Beckman of Andover, and
Megan Beckman of Chicago. They enjoyed
hearing of Megan's recent vacation time
in Turkey and Greece.
Many children attended the Easter Egg
Hunt Saturday afternoon sponsored by the
Kensington Commercial Club. The Prairie
Haven lawn was overrun with children up
to the second grade and only a small
group of third and fourth graders hunted
at St. John Lutheran Parking Lot. The
High School KAYS helped with the event.
It was a beautiful spring morning for
the sunrise Easter services in the
community. The temperature was mild and
the set timing of the services was
perfect. A "sun dog" was evident on the
south side of the sun and according to
old-timers, this indicates rain in the
forecast. Unsettled weather with the
possibility of thunderstorms are a
possibility later tonight (Monday). This
will not be the first thunder storm for
this spring, however, as a quick moving
storm moved through last Thursday night
leaving about .20 rain in a very small
area.
