Simple Grace Concert at United Church Friday Evening

Simple Grace, a concert of Christian music, will be returning to the United Church of Kensington Friday, April 16 at 7 p.m. Simple Grace is a talented musical family from rural Martell, Neb., and features Jim and Kathy Hitch and five of their eight children. They were well received when they appeared at the United Church about two years ago. The concert will appeal to the entire family as their talented children range in age from 10 to 25 years, and they play at least eight different musical instruments. There is no admission charge, but free will donations will be taken for their ministry.

Everyone is invited to attend as the Hitch family "sings music of heaven in a united purpose to touch the souls of men." The church is handicapped accessible. You will be blessed with their performance.

Dennis Tire Store is Sold

Ryan and Tiffany Rietzke have purchased the Dennis Tire Store in Kensington and took over ownership on April 1. The business will be named Rietzke Tire Store, and Tyrel Smith will be in charge of operations. The Rietzkes state that they will continue the services that the former owner, Glenn Dennis, has offered and are planning to perhaps add a few entities in the future. They solicit your business, and you are invited to come in, get acquainted and see what they have to offer.

Glenn Dennis, former owner, states that he purchased the business from Kensington Co-op about 20 years ago and has been "on deck' since that time. When asked what he pans to do in the future, he states, "My wife, Diane, also retired as a laboratory technician at the Phillips County Hospital after 31 years on March 31, and we're just going to do what we want to do", but he adds, "The Kensington community has been good to me." The community, in turn, thanks him for his many years of providing for the needs of the people. Enjoy your retirement, Glenn and Diane!!

Manager Randy Dues stated that sales for 2009 were down compared to 2008, and labor costs were also down. He reported that the WIC sales in 2009 were up and the ATM machine was being used more. An unannounced health inspection occurred in February, 2010, and the several minor infractions were corrected on the spot. Repairs have been done on the used coolers that were installed 7 years ago, and more maintenance is necessary. Discussion was held on questions addressed from the floor.

Manager Dues thanked the board members, but most of all the loyal customers that support the Community Store. It will take the "whole community" to support the store for it to continue to be successful. Your support is needed and very much appreciated. If you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please contact one of the board members or Randy Dues. They will be glad to visit with you.

Board members were re-elected for another 2 year term. They are Tyler Blank, position #5; Bonnie Slavik, position # 6; and Stacy Cole, position # 7.

Names for door prizes were drawn as follows: Georgetta Kinyon, $25 gift certificate; Leland Rahjes, $15 gift certificate, and Doc Grauerholz, $10 gift certificate. The meeting was adjourned.
