"Shape Up Our Community" at Wellness
Center
The HOME Community Wellness Center of
Kensington reminds area residents of the
on-going "Shape Up Our Community"
promotion. Each month the members of the
honored group may purchase two-month
memberships for $40 plus tax. The Red
Hatters were the honored group in
September.
In October anyone with ties to the
farming industry qualifies for the
special rate, and in November, it will
be all Veterans. The deal gets even
sweeter as members of the group may
re-up for another $40 before the month
is over. The $80 fee for four months
represents a $20 savings over the
regular rates.
The Wellness Center is operated by the
HOME Foundation. The HOME Board of
Directors is planning several
fundraisers for the fall. HOME
Foundation Board members are Beverly
Grauerholz, Evelyn Levin, Emily Blank,
Patty Kuhlmann, Gary Nonamaker, Dixie
Riedel and Mary Krueger. The Board
welcomes your input for improvements to
the Center and urges the community to
"Shape Up."

TJ Schools Collecting Bar Codes,
Coupons and Ink Cartridges
The Thunder Ridge Schools are again
asking parents and patrons to save the
bar codes from all Campbell products.
This has been profitable for the school
to get points for available playground
equipment. Be sure to save the bar codes
(not the fronts of the labels). If you
do not wish to cut the bar codes out,
please send the entire label and it will
be done at the school.
Also, please save the "Box Top
Education" official coupons from Betty
Crocker products. These are redeemable
for cash for the school. Empty ink
cartridges also are exchanged for cash
to be used in our schools.
Save these throughout the school year
and bring the bar codes from Campbell
products, the Box Top Education coupons
and ink cartridges to the Elementary
Office at Kensington any time or send
them with a student. If you have
questions, call the elementary office at
476-3241.The students and faculty
appreciate your support again this year.

Hunters Excel at State Fair
Jeri and Bob Hunter have a "green thumb"
for gardening as everyone in the Kirwin/Kensington
community knows. They have a large
garden and sell produce at their farm,
garage sales, and Country Corner when
vegetables are in season. The produce is
always top notch and appreciated by the
consumers.
This was the first time they entered
exhibits at the Kansas State Fair in
Hutchinson and were thrilled with their
results. They won Grand Champion Overall
for their potato exhibit, Grand Champion
on their squash, first place on cabbage,
first place on a gourd exhibit, second
place on squash display, fourth place on
miniature pumpkins, and various awards
on other squash exhibits. They were in
Hutchinson Sunday picking up their
produce and many awards and ribbons.
Congratulations, Jeri and Bob!

Around
The Community
The United Church of Kensington
celebrated the 40th anniversary of their
congregation on Sunday. The United
Church of Kensington was the result of
the merger of the Christian Church and
the United Church of Kensington into one
unit known as the United Church of
Kensington. A congregational dinner was
held in the fellowship hall after the
worship service to celebrate the event.
KimbraLee Adams continues to do well for
the Thunder Ridge Track Team. She
medaled again ggiving her three medals
in three meets. She has improved her
personal best by :40 seconds. The
Thunder Ridge Track Team is competing
with the Smith Center team. Please watch
their progress on the sports page,
especially those from Thunder Ridge.
Your correspondent knows very little
about sports except who wins the game so
refrains from reporting on any
individual achievements.
Mae Donovan is in the Smith County
Hospital for extended care. She is the
mother of Pat Bienhoff and a resident of
Prairie Haven.
The north wind is ushering in a cold
front this Monday morning which is to
keep highs in the 60's for most of this
week with the possibility of showers. No
frost is forecasted. Farmers are putting
up the last crop of hay and filling
silo, and some have begun to drill
wheat. Several fields of early soybeans
have been harvested. The corn stalks are
drying up, the milo has turned all
shades of bronze and browns, and the
pumpkins are ripe and ready for October
decorating. Homemakers are busy canning
the last of the tomatoes and many are
making salsa. It looks and feels like
fall.
