KAYS Sponsoring Fall Blood Drive November 4

The Thunder Ridge KAYS is holding a Red Cross Blood Drive at Thunder Ridge High High School on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The Red Cross really encourages and supports students to get involved in this civic activity. Not only are they important for the blood supply, but also for teaching students the responsibility of caring for each other by giving blood. Our blood goes to our local hospitals and it is hoped for a 'wonderful stranger', but sometimes it is for our very own friends, family and neighbors.

Any high school student age 16 years or older can donate blood, but 16 year-olds need a signed parental consent form. Please encourage your student to get involved. There may be a few time slots open for community donors. Watch for more information.

Red Ribbon Week at Thunder Ridge

All students will receive a red ribbon to wear throughout this week for Red Ribbon Week. There are also different "dress up" days for their participation making them more aware of staying drug free. Monday is "Follow your dreams, be drug free" (wear pajamas). Tuesday is "Shade out drugs" (wear sunglasses). Wednesday is "Sock it to drugs" (wear crazy socks). Thursday is "Say 'boo' to drugs" (wear Halloween costume).

The sun is finally shining this (Monday) morning ushering in warmer weather until late Wednesday when more rain is forecasted. Last week was gloomy with a 1.25 inch rain falling early midweek followed by cloudy, foggy days with light nightly rains. Farners are getting antcy and ready for more favorable fall harvest weather.

In a phone call to the office at Thunder Ridge Schools in Kensington today (Monday), it is reported that they are in "pretty good shape" today as far as absentees is concerned. The stomach flu last week seems to have run its course, thankfully. Perhaps the sunshine will help curb the illnesses as well as help the dispositions.

Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour when Daylight Savings Time ends Saturday evening or you will be an hour early for church on Sunday morning.

H1N1 flu preventative tip--Wash your hands and say your prayers because germs and Jesus are everywhere.
