Community Bible
School in Progress
The
Community Vacation Bible School is in
progress this week at the three churches
in Kensington. A short closing program
will be held at St. John Lutheran Church
(north) Friday morning at 11 a.m.
Parents, grandparents and friends are
invited to attend. (Usually a firetruck
ride for the smaller children to the
church is provided and a balloon launch
follows the program; however this has
not been confirmed this year.)

Story Hour at
Library Begins Next Tuesday
Larissa Dettmer and Madeline
Reneberg have exciting stories and
projects to share with children during
the Summer Reading Program at the
Kensington Community/School Library.
Sessions will be held each Tuesday
during the months of June and July.
Grades 1 thru 4 will meet from 1:00 to
1:45 p.m. and preschool thru
Kindergarten will gather from 2:00 to
2:45 p.m.
Summer is a good time
to enjoy reading, and your Library has
an abundance of materials and books for
all ages. Hours are Monday thru Saturday
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with extended
hours on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

City-Wide Garage
Sale Coming Up
There will
be a city-wide garage sale in Kensington
on Saturday'.Jume 11, sponsored by the
Kensington Commercial Club. To get your

All-Academic Students Announced
A group of Thunder Ridge High School
students placed high in the 2009
Cheyenne League All-Academic Contest.
Those students and their placements are
Katie Larson-1st in English IV; Nic
Irwin, 1st in American History; Madeline
Reneberg, 1st in English I; Kayle
Holsman, 1st in Earth Science; Larissa
Dettmer, 1st in Algebra; Taylor Shaffer,
2nd in American History; Cory Rahjes,
2nd in Biology; Nathan Larson, 2nd in
Algebra I; Trent Ferguson, 3rd in
Geometry; and Madeline Reneberg, 3rd in
Earth Science.

Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremonies Held
Fifteen Thunder Ridge 8th graders
received their promotional diplomas at
special ceremonies Tuesday, May 19, at
the Middle School in Agra and will enter
high school next year. They are
Johnathan Davis, Kade Dennis, Rae
Griffin, Caleb Horn, Chandler Hoskins,
Brittany Kirchhoff, Trevor Lowe, Elly
Miller, Jackie Reneberg, Kathryn Sarr,
Amber Schmid, Terry Southerland, Ashley
Struckhoff, Eva Young, and Gregory
Yoxall.

Kensington Alumni Enjoys Reunion
Many former Kensingtonites arrived
over the weekend to spend time with
family and friends and to attend the
Kensington Alumni banquet Saturday
evening. Heather Meyer of the Class of
1989 gave the welcome and Milton
Detwiler of the Class of 1969 gave the
invocation. The Kensington Legion
provided a delicious meal to 130 Alumni
and guests. The Tunder Ridge
Cheerleaders and Sapphire Dancers
assisted with the serving.
The
program continued with the recitation of
the Pledge of Allegiance. Entertainment
was provided by "The Tootsies",
representing the classes of '59, '79,
'83, and '89. Delighting the audience
with a medley of songs were Annette
Riley, Connie Kahrs, Carol Rahjes,
Bethie Smith, Linda Dettmer, Kim
Rrietzke, Kathie Boden, and Sherry
Newbrey.
The honor classes were
introduced and a roll call of classes
was held. The class of Thunder Ridge
Class of 2009 was announced. A short
business meeting concluded the gathering
before the school song was sung.

Around the Community
Margaret Stockton was able to return
home Friday after spending a few days in
the Hays Regional Medical Center .
A memorial service for Nancy .Stokesbury,
72, of Kensington who died Feb. 3, 2009,
was held at the Fairview Cemetery in
Smith Center , Sunday, May 24. Immediate
survivors include her daughters, Peggy
(Curtis) Wagenblast of Athol and Lucinda
Jane (Ronnie) Cozad of Smith Center; her
sons, Glenn of Biloxi, Miss., and Roy of
Smith Center. Her grandson, Anthony and
Elizabeth Stokesbury and two daughters
of Virginia were back for the memorial
service. Anthony is in the U.S. Navy.
Relatives here received word of the
death of Karl Baumann of Lexington , NE.
He was a brother of the late Phil and
Ralph Baumann and his only surviving
sibling is Edna Panter of Smith Center .
Some nephews and nieces plan to attend
the funeral Tuesday.
Lyla Kaye,
infant daughter of Nick and Emily Levin
of Inman, was baptized at the Emanuel
Lutheran Church in Hutchinson Sunday
morning. Her sponsors were her aunts,
Emily (Levin) Shelton of Dallas, TX. and
Megan Hudson of Kensington. Honored
guests were Lyla's grandparents, Deanna
and Steve Garnett of Salina and Jeff and
Mickie Levin and Joel and Connie
Bienhoff of Kensington and her
great-grandparents, Verne and Carol
Overmiller of Lebanon and Evelyn Levin
and Ruth Bienhoff of Kensington. Many
other relatives were present to enjoy a
catered dinner together in the church
parish hall. Guests enjoyed admiring
little Lyla and later going to the Levin
home in Inman.
Be sure to notice
the large "TR" stone formation on the
hillside west of the overpass when
traveling Highway 36 between Kensington
and Agra . It is the work of the2009
eighth grade graduation class from
Thunder Ridge Middle School . One
heavily involved adult sponsor replied
that it was a lot more work than they
had anticipated, but everyone agrees
that it is a nice tribute to our school
and well worth their efforts. Thanks,
kids!
The Monday Salina Journal
has the large headline, "Struckhoff
claims Newlin Memorial feature", in the
sports section. The story states that
Kensington's racing enthusiast., Cory
Struckhoff, won the Martin Newlin
Memorial feature race for IMCA Stock car
races in an eventful Saturday night at
Minneapolis Raceway in Minneapolis , MN
.
The Kensington heated swimming
pool opened Saturday and it was a warm
day to begin the summer of fun. Swimming
lesson sign-ups will be anouced in the
near future.
It was a perfect
weekend to have picnics and going
fishing or whatever your chose to do.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) it will be back to
the usual busy schedules. Farmers are
putting up hay and have mostly completed
planting corn and soybeans. The wheat is
headed and, so far, looks good.

Wrap-Up
The Athol Alumni
met Sunday evening in the Athol
Community Hall and that report will be
in the next issue. Also, numerous class
reunions and family gatherings will be
included next week. Will the persons in
charge please get them to your
correspondent by the end of the week.
Prairie Haven notes are not available
