Pro-Ag
Marketing has Record Year
The annual meeting of Pro-Ag
Marketing Association, Inc., was held
March 24, 2009, at the Kensington Legion
Hall. Registration was held and patron
dividends were handed out. A delicious
baked steak dinner was served by the
Legion and Auxiliary members at 6 p.m.
to 150 members, their families and
guests
William Jones, chairman of
the Board of Directors, called the
meeting to order promptly at 7 p.m. Don
Wiens, vice-president, gave the
invocation. Donald Grauerholz,
secretary-treasurer, read the notice of
the annual meeting and a quorum was
declared by the chairman. Also present
were Robert Bienhoff and Kerry Ferguson,
diectors. The minutes of the last meeting
were read and approved.
The
audit report was given by Greg
Daughhettee , CPA of Lindburg Vogel
Pierce Faris of Hays. After a brief
summary of the printed report, he stated
that it was a great year for Pro-Ag
Marketing making it possible to return
substantial dividends to members and
back into the community. The report was
accepted.
Chairman of the
nominating committee, Eugene Hagman,
Jr., presented the names of William
Jones and Don Wiens for re-election to
the Board of Directors. A unanimous
ballot was cast for both members. Paul
Bienhoff will replace Hagman on the
nominating committee.
Manager

Fink Memorial Award to employee Dave
Hommon and his name will be added to the
plaque in the office. He then continued
by stating that 2008 was a great year
for Pro-Ag Marketing with record
earnings for the year. He thanked the
patrons for their business, and the
employees for doing a fine job. He
concluded by stating that his retirement
was a difficult decision as he had
enjoyed serving as manager of Pro-Ag and
being a part of the community for the
past nine years. The assembly responded
by given him a standing tribute of
thanks for his service.
The new
manager, James Jirak of Goddard, was
introduced and spoke briefly with
enthusiasm of being hired by the Board
of Directors. He and his wife, Sandy,
and their five young children look
forward to becoming a part of the
community. A principal concern is
finding a house, preferably in the
country, to accommodate his young
family.

presented Dennis Graf with an honorary
2009 Leonard Fink Memorial Award and his
name, too, will be added to the plaque
in the office. Names were drawn for the

Ruth Bienhoff
Honored for 80th Birthday
A large crowd attended the open
house for the 80th birthday of Ruth
Bienhoff, your Kenaington correspondent,
Saturday afternoon at the St. John
Lutheran Parish Hall hosted by her
family. Her son, Mark Bienhoff and Troy
Zwart of Des Moines, Iowa, arrived
without incidence early Friday evening,
but it was a different story for her
son, John and Tonya Bienhoff, and his
daughter, Jessica Tiner, and grandson,
Bennett, who battled the adverse weather
from Fayetteville, Arkansas, leaving
after work on Friday evening. What a
relief it was when they arrived in time
for the open house. Driving through
blinding snow and bad roads, the 500
mile journey seemed endless, but their
anxiety was over when they were welcomed
by sunshine and thankful family and
friends. Other hosts were her sons, Paul
and Deb Bienhoff and Leah and Joel and
Connie Bienhoff and her granddaughter,
Megan Hudson, all of Kensington.
Calls and e-mails began late Friday
afternoon as relatives, nieces and
friends stated they were unable to come
because of the blizzard conditions which
made travel impossible. A planned
reunion was postponed until later in the
spring or summer.
Attending from
a distance were Bill and Zennie Kuhlmann
of Independence, MO; Joyce Richter and
Clairene Weimer of Hayes Center, NE;
Herb and Lois Bienhoff and Irene
Frerichs of Hildreth, NE, Pastor Dave
and Anita Sites of Holdrege, NE, and
Ardith Jones of Franklin, NE.
After greeting Ruth for her birthday,
refreshments were enjoyed along with
lots of visiting and reminscing. A
catered supper was enjoyed by the family
at Ruth's home later in the evening. It
was a great day!

Around the Community
Margaret Stockton is making a good
recovery from quadruple by-pass surgery
at the Hays Regional Medical Center
performed last Wednesday. Her husband
has been close by giving her much
support.
Teresa Smith is gaining
strength following major surgery at the
Shawnee Mission Medical Center in
Shawnee on March 13. Numerous
non-related surgery problems have
hindered her recovery, but she hopes for
possible release to come home the end of
the week.
LaVaille Anderson of
Wallingford, Iowa, had successful
quadruple by-pass surgery at Sioux
Falls, S.D., last Thursday. LaVaille is
well-known in the area as her husband,
Virgil Anderson, was the pastor of St.
John Lutheran Church of Kensington for
15 years from 1963 to 1978 and she was a
valued employee at Prairie Haven.
Twelve members of the K-town Kates
and friends attended the musical
production, "Always Patsy Cline", at the
Minden Opera House Saturday evening.
They report that it was an excellent
performance.
This area missed out
on the heavy snow that created havoc in
western, central and southern Kansas
Friday and Saturday, but the wind
prevailed upon us. Moisture continues
hard to come by this spring, and this
week's forecast promises very little
with warmer temperatures. We hope April
fools us and gives us a wet month.

Prairie Haven
Notes
The days begin as
usual with greetings and fun and fitness
exercises. Jenny Reilley provided hair
care and Carmen Rice did manicures
Monday which makes everyone feel more
festive. One-one sessions are held
routinely. Spring weather trivia was
discussed Monday afternoon. Bingo was
played Tuesday afternoon. Music always
brings remembrances and hits of 1966
presented special thoughts. Wednesday
afternoon. March is also "noodle month"
and the residents enjoyed comparing
noodles they had made or eaten in their
homes.
Patsy Koeneke of St. John
Lutheran Church had the Thursday morning
Bible study. Fellowship over coffee
followed. Good smells of cooking or
baking in the home or outdoor fresh air
aroma created lots of interest in the
afternoon conversations. Bingo was
played Friday afternoon. The residents
do lots of television viewing along with
playing cards and putting puzzles
together during the weekend.
The
United Church of Kensington had the
Sunday worship services.
Welcome
to Sandra Kent who is Prairie Haven's
newest resident.
Visitors this
week signing the register were Erma
Jansonius with Garrett Jansonius; Mary
Struckhoff and Linda Ferguson with Aleen
Schalansky; Mike Wangerin and JoAnn
Brooks with Marie Wangerin; Pat Bienhoff
with Mae Donvan, Mary Jones and Louie
Bienhoff; Leroy and Joyce Keim with
