Thunder Ridge Longhorns Win Regional Tournament

Congratulations to the Longhorns for being the champs at the Regional Tournament in Sylvan Grove Saturday evening by defeating Wilson with a score of 64-58. The Longhorns drew a first round bye and defeated Natoma in the second round Friday evening to advance to the finals. . Both Thunder Ridge and Wilson will advance to sub-state play next Friday with Thunder Ridge going to Colby and Wilson to Hays.

Thunder Ridge will travel to Colby to play Hoxie Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the sub-state tournament. The finals will be played Saturday evening. Only the champions will go to the state tournament the following week at Hays. See the sports page for all the details. Good luck, Longhorns!

The Thunder Ridge Lady Longhorns surprised the favored Wilson team by winning the first round of the regional tournament Monday evening. They gave the Sylvan Grove girls a good run on Thursday night, but fell short with a score of 44-41. This completes their basketball season for this year.. Congratulations to the team and their coaches.

HOME Foundation Murder Mystery

Mark your calendars now for late afternoon fun on Sunday, March 15, at 4 p.m. at the Kensington Legion. Everyone will have another opportunity to prove their detective skills by solving the mystery of who killed Malcolm Melee of Nippy Valley as the crime unfolds in "Death is a Cabernet, Ol' Chum." The play will feature some of our local star actors. Sparkling juice, wine, cheese, and hor'dourves will be served.

Besides being an afternoon of visiting with your neighbors and enjoying an entertaining play, you will be supporting your local HOME Foundation. Contact persons and board members are Bev Grauerholz, Emily Blank, Gary Nonamaker, Patty Kuhlmann, Deb Ferguson, Mary Krueger, Dixie Riedel, and Evelyn Levin. Senior Center Notes

St. Patrick's Dinner at Communiy Center March 15

The public is invited to an Irish dinner at the Community Center Sunday noon, March 15. The menu of Irish stew, reuben sandwiches, and other traditional Irish dishes will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Donations will be taken for the meal.

Happenings at the Center this month are the Board meeting, Wednesday, March 11 @ noon; pitch party, Thursday, March 12 @ 7 p.m.; double deck pinochle, Monday, March 16 @ 1:30 p.m.; birthday party, Thursday, March 19 @ noon; pinochle party, Tuesday, March 31 @ 7 p.m.

There are 16 seniors with March birthdays which will be celebrated at noon on Thursday, March 19. Come and help them celebrate by ordering your meal in advance.

Around the Community

Carolyn Billings is scheduled for back surgery this Friday at the Salina Regional Medical Center. She expects to be hospitalized 4 to 5 days.

Seone Reece is scheduled for upper neck surgery at a hospital in Wichita Thursday.

Paul and Wilda Conaway flew to Columbus, Ohio, on Feb.12 where they were met by their daughter and husband, Kathy and Russell Tilton. They then drove to Washington, D.C., to spend the weekend seeing some of the sights. The main focus of their trip was getting to see the WWII, Korean and Viet Nam memorials and Arlington National Cemetery. This was a dream trip that Paul hoped to make, and he and Wilda state that it was fabulous. Paul is a veteran of the Korean War.

Ryan and Tiffany Rietzke and family were thrilled to move into their newly constructed home on Old Highway 36 west of Kensington last week. Nick Luiso and crew were responsible for the construction of the beautiful country home. The Rietzke's had been living in the United Church parsonage until the home was completed. Phil and Dixie Riedel will be moving into the parsonage during school spring break. They have been living in a Ted Levin rental house on north Monroe. Mr. Riedel is the Thunder Ridge High School principal and Dixie works for Midwest Energy in Phillipsburg.

Martin and Florence Stenseng recently returned from an extended visit with their daughter, Carolyn and Jeff Haresnape and family, at Cary, North Carolina.

Daylight Savings Time will return this Sunday and you are reminded to turn your clocks AHEAD Saturday night to be on time for church Sunday morning. The children will be going to school in the dark again and the evenings will have longer daylight hours making it more difficult to get them to bed on time.

Melinda Mazzarella of Colorado Springs spent the past week with her mother, Lois Hrabe. Also spending the weekend with Lois were Mike and Diann Hrabe of Canton. They enjoyed attending the last basketball games and seeing their grandson, Blane Hrabe, play in the scrimmage.

A crowd of about 140 persons crowded into the Kensington Community Center last Thursday evening for the auction of the land, house, and car for the Lucille Schoeni Estate. The house was purchased by Janis Mogan for $35,000, and it is reported that their daughter, Brandi and husband and their son, Brian, will be living in it. Watch announcement from the auctioneer, Al Frieling, about the purchaser of the land.

It was a chilly weekend with lows dipping into the single digits on Friday and Saturday nights. A covering of snow fell during the night Friday which mostly disappeared on Saturday. Temps are due to warm up into the 70's by the middle of the week which gives everyone a touch of spring fever. A soaking spring rain would give everything a boost.

Prairie Haven Notes

Each day begins with greetings and fun and fitness exercises and one-one sessions. Jenny Reilley is ready for hair stylings and Carmen Rice is the manicurist. Doodles and person, place and thing were enjoyed Monday afternoon. Bingo was played Tuesday afternoon..Favorite candies and love songs kept the conversation going Wednesday.

The Heartland Worship Center had the Thursday morning Bible study followed by fellowship with coffee. The Resident Council met in the afternoon. Bingo was played Friday afternoon. Weekend and evening activities included card games, watching movies and television and putting puzzles together. Hee Haw and the Lawrence Welk Show always draw large attendance to the big screen television.

The Hearland Worship Center had the Sunday afternoon worship. Present were Pastor Darrell and Jeri Schmid, Georgetta Kinyon and Pauline Richter.

Recent new residents are Bessie Bierman of Kensington and Gerritt Jansonius of Phillipsburg. Welcome!
