Thunder Ridge
BB Season Ends at State Tournament
A huge throng of Thunder Ridge
Boosters were at Hays Thursday evening
as the local team took on the Goessel
team in the first round of the State
Basketball Tournament. The game kept
everyone on the edge of their seats
until the final whistle was blown, but
Thunder Ridge was left with 44 points
and Goessel had 49 points to win the
game. The Thunder Ridge team had a
tremendous season with the tussle with
Goessel being their only loss and
completing a 25-1 season.
Thanks
to the team members and their coaches,
Greg Kuhlmann and Jerek Wagenblast, for
a great season and providing tremendous
and exciting sports enthusiasm for the
community. See the sports section for
complete details.

HOME Charitable
Foundation Fund Raiser
Those attending the HOME Charitable
Foundation fund-raiser Sunday afternoon
had a challenging and hilarious time
trying to identify the person who
"Murdered Malcolm Melee of Nippy
Valley." Persons of interest were played
by Gary Hainke, Sheila Dues, Todd
Kirchhoff, Erin Ferguson, George
Ferguson, Emily Blank, Gary Nonamaker,
and Bev Grauerholz. Deb Ferguson was the
moderator and provided further clues as
the evidence unfolded. No one, not even
the actual culprit, knew the answer.
When the moderator opened the sealed
envelope, only two of the eight groups
had picked the correct criminal
(murderer) which was Emily Blank.
Adding to the fun of the evening,
lovely refreshments were served along
with sparkling juices and wines.
Vineyard table decorations added to the
elegance of the event. A large number of
door prizes were given. Everyone enjoyed
the unique Sunday afternoon event.

Around the Community
Carolyn Billings returned home last
Tuesday and is doing well in
recuperating from recent back surgery in
Salina.
Ken and Wanda
Ellenberger moved back over the weekend
into the house that was badly damaged by
fire about six months ago. They lived in
the house of the late Lee Clarke while
their home was being repaired. It was a
very happy move for them.
Visitors at Esther Norden's home on the
9th and 10th were Peter and Jessica
Gaskamp of Lawrence. Darrell, Elaine and
Justin Bretton and Leland Rahjes were
also able to renew friendships as it had
been 19 years since Peter lived in
Kensington with his parents, Greg and
Carol Gaskamp and brother, Nathan, when
his father was the pastor of St. John
Lutheran Church. Peter plays in a
bluegrass band, The Dewayn Brothers, and
Jessica is a nurse in Lawrence.
Larry Cooper, 52, of Woodston died in an
auto accident Thursday, March 12. His
father, Doug Cooper, is a resident at
Prairie Haven. A graveside service was
held at the Woodston Cemetery Tuesday.
Heartland Worship Center hosted
an open house Sunday afternoon to help
their pastor and wife, Darrell and Jeri
Schmid, celebrate their 40th wedding
anniversary.
A large group of
relatives gahered for a potluck dinner
at the First St. John Lutheran Parish
Hall Sunday afternoon to help Eulonda
Hagman and other March birthday
celebrants with their birthday
celebrations. Eulonda was thrilled to
have all of her grandchildren present
for the event.
As this is
written Monday afternoon, it is a
gorgeous spring day. The forecast is for
a good week with the possibility of
showers later. A nice spring shower
would be welcome. The wheat fields and
roadsides are greening up. Farmers are
busy with baby calves and other spring
chores.

Prairie Haven
Notes
Adopted
Grandkids visit Prairie Haven
The third and fourth grade students
from Thunder Ridge Middle School at Agra
visited Prairie Haven Wednesday morning.
The rooms are always filled with chatter
as the students bring things to share
with their adopted grandparents. It's a
favored day of the moth for both
students and residents.
Another
note-worthy event was the coming of
youth groups from the two Lutheran
Churches came Saturday to clean up the
flower beds and prepare them for the new
plantings later this spring. Thanks to
them, too.
The beauty shop is
open on Mondays and manicures are given.
Fun and fitness exercies and one-one
sessions are done each morning. Peanuts
and the song "Georgia on my Mind" was
used for Monday afternoon discussion.
Bingo was played Tuesday afternoon.
Residents were kept guessing as Wanda
brought to mind different things from
different years Wednesday afternoon.
Pastor Koeneke of St. John Lutheran
Church had the Thursday morning Bible
study and cookies, coffee with visiting
was enjoyed afterwards.
Dettmer
relatives had a potluck dinner Sunday
noon at First St. John Lutheran Parish
Hall honoring Eulonda Hagman along with
other March
