Licensed Pharmacist
Mike
and Dianna Rice of Athol are proud
parents as their son Chase, called them
to say he is officially a licensed
pharmacist by the state of Kansas. He
had passed his state boards this past
week and completed the final requirement
for licensing. Chase had received his
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the
University of Kansas in special hooding
ceremonies at Murphy Hall, KU campus, on
Saturday, May 16. He also participated
in the traditional graduation walk down
Mount Oread the next day at KU Memorial
Stadium.
Celebrating the
graduation events were his wife Abby,
Norton; Mike, Dianna and Kirby Rice,
Athol; Mike and Lori Hess, Smith Center;
and Shawn, Lea, Drake and Lauren
Harding, Larned. Abby had completed her
Bachelor of Science in Finance Degree
from KU in December, 2007. Both were
2003 graduates of Smith Center High
School.
Chase and Abby have
purchased a home in Norton where he is
employed at Moffett Drug, downtown
Norton. They moved to their home on May
8 so they have had a busy month. Their
families are especially excited to have
them move back closer to home.

Hagmans Host
Washington Relatives
Gene
& Nancy Hagman had a full house as they
hosted a Richardson-Swank reunion for
decendents of Nancy's maternal
grandparents, May 30 to June 3. The
group began their history gathering by
traveling to Marysville, Kans. where the
families emigrated to from Millbrook,
Canada, in the mid 1800's.
Those
attending part or all events were Ben
and Joyce Draper, Richland, Wash.; Linda
Landis and Anne and Dusty Hatch, Yakima,
Wash.; Rachel Dodd, St Francis.; Sue
Brandyberry , Wichita; Kate Hagman,
Garden City; Jill and Dusty Gary,
Topeka; Craig and Patricia Betzold,
Marcus Dodd, and Janis Dodd, Manhattan;
and Elizabeth Hagman, Smith Center.
A great deal of fun was had visiting
cemeteries, historical sites and tourist
attractions in Kansas and Nebraska. The
Washington natives were surprised by the
size of farms in Kansas and considered
the types of crops unusual, expecting
more corn and were not at all familiar
with milo. The eight Kansas State
University graduates were pleased with
the apparent conversion of the
Washington men, who returned to the west
sporting purple caps!

came to spend some time visiting and
then took her to the special events. Her
granddaughter, Christa Gaschler,
received her Doctor of Medicine from the
University of Missouri at Columbia. She
will be doing her internship at the St.
Louis Children's Hospital. Her youngest
grandson, Drew Gaschler, also received a

proud grandmother.
This area
again missed out on rain from the
thunder storms that moved through the
area Sunday evening. The Bienhoff gauge
only had .10 in it. Most farmers have
finished planting the spring crops and
putting up the alfalfa and would welcome
a soaking rain before harvest.
Temperatures have been cool over the
weekend and due to continue with daily
thunderstorms a possibility this week.
