Fix-Up at Roadside Park Planned
The Kensington Commercial Club is
making plans to re-store the Kensington
Roadside Park on Highway 36. More
information will be forthcoming in the
future. They are looking for pictures of
the "wishing well" that was in the park
a number of years ago, and perhaps would
plan to design another similar to it. If
you have a picture, please lend it to
Mary Beach at the City Office or Randy
Dues at the Kensington Community Store.
Your help will be appreciated.

Harvest, 2009!!
It
doesn't take a genius to know what will
soon be happening in the Kensington
community. Eavesdropping on
conversations note they are all centered
on the upcoming harvest. When will it
begin and will the weather hold?
Weather forecasts indicate a hot,
humid week with little or no expected
rainfall which might allow test cuttings
by the end of the week. Last week had
many cloudy days with high humidity and
a number of evening showers to slow the
ripening progression. Another .50 rain
fell Saturday afternoon and evening
without wind or hail so complaints
should not be forthcoming when
destruction from severe storms are
reported almost daily from parts of
Kansas. Temperatures could reach 100
with humidity to match this week. It
will be hot, but it means wheat harvest
in Kansas will soon be here.
People having birthdays later this week
predict that Mother Nature will be on
time, and they will be celebrating
birthdays with harvest in full swing.
Please be careful whether working
directly in the harvest or driving on
the roads or being an interest
spectator.

Japanese Display at
Library
Nancy Hagman has
an interesting display in the showcase
at the Kensington Community/School
Library. The Hagmans hosted an exchange
student from Japan a number of years ago
and were graced with many gifts of
appreciation from her. Come in and see
these beautiful gifts and articles which
are on display.
Many new books,
DVD's and VCR's for all ages are being
added to the shelves for your check-out
at the Library. Reading a good book or
magazine on these hot afternoons is a
nice way to "beat the heat."

Around the Community
Joan Hardisty of Athol is recovering
from surgery at the Salina Regional
Medical Center and hopes to be dismissed
the end of the week.
Ann Ferguson
continues at the Phillips County
Hospital for treatment and therapy
following a stroke.
Bob and Jan
Davis of Washington, Utah, are now
official residents of Kensington and
anxious to get acquainted with their new
neighbors and friends. Bob and Jan
bought a house on S. Washington from Don
and Cathy Bronson several years ago.
They were looking to spend their
retirement years in a mid-western Kansas
farm community. After traveling the area
for this special location, they chose
Kensington because of the friendliness
of the people they met in the community.
They completed their move last week. Bob
enjoys antique tractors and Jan "likes
to play with Barbies" according to her
husband. She buys Barbie dolls on garage
sales and then restores them with new
clothes and hair stylings. No,. they do
not have any relatives in this area.
Elizabeth Wiens, Solomon and Eden of
Kearney, Neb., are spending some time
here with their parents and
grandparents, Don and Doris Wiens and
Bill and Marge Hofer, while the husband
and father, Darren, oversees a
remodeling project at the family home.
Weekend visitors of Marlin and
Ginger Smith were their daughter and
sons, Carla Hajek, Cooper and Carter of
Hugoton.
Melba and Jerry Hagman
of Claudell, her sisters, Andee and
Steve Black of Peoria, Ariz., and Janice
and Ivan Erickson of St. Michael, Minn.,
along with their children and
grandchildren, Kent, Tamra and Darah
Portenier of Kirwin, Kayla Johnson of
Carrollton, Tex., Doug, Kim, Jessica and
Rachael Walker of Ames, Iowa, Joe,
Garrick and Garrison Walker of Lincoln,
Neb. and Shannon, Rebecca, Naman and
Pierson Brown of Overland Park, gathered
at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City
Friday, June 12, for a family reunion.
Their uncle, Bob Sherrid of St.
Louis, MO, and his grandson, Robert,
from Florida joined them Saturday.
Cheeseburger Paradise was chosen for the
Saturday evening celebration for Shannon
and Ivan's birthdays and Doug and Kim's
wedding anniversary. Charles and Edith
Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., joined them
Saturday for visiting and dinner.
Everyone enjoyed the Water Park,
shopping at Cabela's, the Mall, and
Putt-Putt golf. The concensus of the
group is that the green water slide is
the most fun.
Jennifer Bruns of
Marshall, Minn., visited her parents and
sister, Paul, Deb, and Leah Bienhoff,
over the weekend. She came especially to
be a member of the bridal party for her
friend Beth Boswell Saturday evening.
Ann Vaughan of Manhattan spent the
weekend with her aunt, Ruth Bienhoff.
She came especially to wish her aunt,
Dorine Kuhlmann, a happy birthday at
Prairie Haven. They attended the 90th
birthday party of Alvina Kuhlmann in
Smith Center Saturday.
Why is it?
The easiest way to find something lost
is to buy a replacement.
