had another back surgery on Friday. He
returned home Sunday and is doing well.
Mary Anthony will be staying at the
Smith County Hospital for the remainder
of this week to regain her strength. She
is making a good recovery from recent
surgery and enjoys visitors and cards.
Aleen Schalansky was taken to
the Smith County Hospital and then
transferred to the Good Samaritan
Hospital at Kearney, Neb., for treatment
of respiratory problems, possibly
pneumonia.
Word was received here
that Linda Hohner has been diagnosed
with breast cancer. She is currently
living with her daughter and family,
Jenifer and Ron McMurdo, Emily and John
at Ft. Drum, N.Y.
Donnie and
Sandy VanSkiver of Yuman, Ariz., spent
last week with Errol and Marla Baumann.
Donnie graduated from Kensington High
School in 1955. The two couples spent
the weekend in Branson, Mo., enjoying
the sights and shows.
Sharilyn
Currey had ankle fusion surgery on July
13 by specialist Bryce Palmgren M.D. at
Manhattan Regional Health Center in
Manhattan. She's hoping that it will
stop the pain when she walks. The
surgery was made necessary by rheumatoid
arthritis that she has had since she was
30 years old.
Carolyn Haresnape
and their three youngest children,
Jonathan, Kathryn, and Arianna, of Cary,
N. C., will be visiting her parents,
Martin and Florence Stenseng, in
Kensington from July 24 thru 30. She
would enjoy visiting with classmates and
friends and they are invited to stop by.
Lots of rain last week with
thunderstorms almost every night ushered
in cooler temperatures making for a
wonderful weekend. Everything is really
lush and green. Gardeners are enjoying
the fruits of their labors. Flowers and
lawns are beautiful and the corn, milo,
and soybeans are progressing nicely.
Field work is at a standstill.
Lois Hrabe enjoyed having several
members of her family with her the past
week. Shane Hrabe and son Matthew of
McPherson came on Monday and daughter
Lindsay came later in the week. Mike and
Diann Hrabe of Canton came for the
weekend. Mike brought all of them garden
tomatoes and sweet corn that he had
grown.
Venita Cole of Stockton,
Veda Russel of Natoma, and Audrey Austen
of Macksville, Lois' nieces, also
visited during the week. All of the
above called on Dan, Trina, Raini and
Owen Hrabe in their new location in
Kensington and enjoyed watching Benton
Hrabe, with the help of his parents and
brother, Joel, Kendra and Blane, make
preparations for the Smith County Fair.
Everyone had a bun and busy time!
Local fairs are keeping youth and
families busy. The Smith County Fair was
held over the weekend and the Phillips
County Fair will be on this week.
Then---comes the Rodeo. Lots of places
to go and lots of folks to see.
Congratulations to all our local 4-Hers
that placed well in both fairs.
Relatives and friends here attended the
wedding of Jared Miller and Christen
Hubbard at First Lutheran Church in

late Friday evening to overnight with
Ruth Bienhoff. They and Ruth then
attended the wedding of Megan Hudson and
Chris Broeckelman at the Celebration
Community Church in Hays and the
reception at the VFW in Russell that
followed on Saturday. They were joined
there by John and Tonya Bienhoff and
Jessica and Bennett Tiner and friend
Chris of Fayetteville, Ark.; Ryan and
Jennifer Bruns of Marshall, Minn.; Nick,
Emily and Lyla Levin of Inman; Paul, Deb
and Leah Bienhoff and Joel and Connie
Bienhoff as well as the honored couple,
Chris and Megan Broeckelman and Kayden
Hudson. The only immediate family member
missing was Laura Beth Bienhoff of
London, England. The newlyweds will make
their home in Natoma where Chris teaches
industrial arts and coaches in the
school and Megan will open a day care.
Bobby Dalton of El Reno, Okla., has
spent the past two weeks with his
sister, Teresa and Terry Smith. He has
been helping Terry and also enjoying the
bountiful harvest of the garden he
planted here earlier this spring.
A number of homes in Kensington are
receiving fresh coats of paint this
summer and look so nice. Hats off to the
youth group and their sponsors who
painted a house as their summer project.
These are nice improvements in our
neighborhoods.
There is a 70%
chance of thunderstorms this afternoon
with the possibility of them producing
hail and damaging winds. Our rains have
been so wonderful and crops and gardens
look os great. We hope these forecasts
do not materialize.
