Used
Refrigerator Units at Community Store
Need Help
The used
refrigeration units that were purchased
when the Kensington Community Store was
opened are in need of repair or
replacement. A raffle for a new Dell
Inspiron 531 Computer is being held to
help defray the expenses. Tickets for a
chance on getting this new computer
while helping the store are now
available. See complete details at the
Kensington Community Store.
Patrons of the store are asked to turn
in all their cash register tapes each
time they make a purchase. Our local
schools will receive 1% of the total of
these receipts to use for their needs.
This project will end on March 1 so put
any store tapes you have in the box at
the deli counter in the Kensington
Community Store. Even small purchases
really add up. Also, don't forget to
turn in the Campbell and Swanson labels
and Boxtops for Education coupons from
Betty Crocker products to the elementary
office at Kensington or middle school
office at Agra as they, too, can be
redeemed for school supplies.

Annette Riley
Entertains at Music Club
The Music Club met for a salad luncheon
and program on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the
Community Center in Kensington. After
opening with the singing of the Doxology
in grand harmony, 20 members and guests
enjoyed the many varied sandwiches,
salads, and deserts.
Annette
Riley had the program and told what she
has done with music since graduation.
She stated that she has two assets – her
voice and her smile. Her college
professor told her to use these and sing
from her heart. The first song she
performed was ‘CRAZY’ which had inspired
her at an early age. Other songs she
sang were ‘In My Daughter’s Eyes’ and
‘Sing it Anyway.' To keep her voice in
shape, she sings in the car, working
around the farm, and checking cattle on
her 4-wheeler. She claims that by
singing to the new cattle, they have
tamed down (except for the one that is
tone-deaf). She had pictures of some of
the groups she has sung with and told of
her work with the Praise Team at her
church in Fort Worth,TX. Her daughter,
Matti, sang ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little
Star’ and daughter, Dani, sang along
with her mother on ‘Only You’.
Terri Bohm announced that she and Nancy
Wangerin are planning the meeting on
Feb. 14 which will be a catered supper
with entertainment. More information
will be forthcoming.

Around the
Community
Donald Dodds, Sr., is a patient at the
Hays Regional Medical Center for tests
and a heart procedure. He is expected
home Tuesday.
Esther Noirden was
in the Smith County Hospital last week
for treatment of respiratory problems.
A note from Evelyn Krein in Salina
states that Harvey is scheduled for back
surgery this Thursday at the Salina
Regional Medical Center and will be in
the hospital for about 5 days. She
reports that their daughter, Staci
Thomas, had her second chemo session and
is able to work at the school part time.
KHS 1965 classmates of Jerry
Brien of Ft. Worth, Tex., received word
recently that he is suffering from brain
cancer. No further information is
available.
A family dinner was
held at the home of Ty amd Jeni Wallgren
on Sunday, January 18, to celebrate
Zach's 12th birthday. Those present were
Ty, Jeni, Zach & Brock, his great
grandmother Goldie Brunow of Smith
Center, and his grandparents, Jim and
Teri Ward of Kearney, Neb., and Lynn and
Janeen Wallgren of Phillipsburg.
Stan Miller of Denton, Tex., spent
several days last week with his parents,
Dean and Darlene Miller, and other
relatives and friends.
Dennis and
Judy Graf received a call last Tuesday
from their daughter and son-in-law, Tami
and Keith Crosgrove of Bassett, Neb.,
stating that their house had been broken
into and ransacked that day with
jewelry, electrical devices, and many
other items stolen. Keith and his father
were working with cattle in the area of
the rural home, but the thieves must
have known their work habits and left no
traces. There had been other thiefs in
the area, also.
It is reported
that break-ins and robberies occurred at
several business in Kensington over the
weekend. Sadly, all of these businesses
run on a very small margin of profit and
are struggling to keep their services
going in our small community. Local
folks work hard for their money and are
trustworthy, and it is very distressing
when someone else comes in and decides
to take the profits. Everyone hopes the
culprits are caught soon and brought to
justice. More information should be
available in the Smith County Sheriff's
report.
This area had several
days of frigid weather last week
accompanied by strong winds. The weekend
was nice were it not for the prevailing
winds, but another cold front with
possible snow is forecasted for the
weekend. It's still January!

Prairie Haven
Notes
Everything is still
in a state of upheaval at Prairie Haven
as remodeling continues. Come in and see
all the changes that are being made and
redecorating being done. The residents
are enjoying watching all the activity,
but the staff hopes everything will
return to normalcy soon.
Jenny
Reilley had the beauty shop open for
hair care Monday morning and Carmen Rice
was busy giving manicures and nail care.
Trivia facts were presented in the
afternoon. Bingo was played Tuesday
afternoon.
The halls and rooms
were buzzing with activity Wednesday
morning when the third and fourth
graders from Thunder Ridge Middle School
in Agra came over for their monthly

First St. John
Lutheran Church had the Thursday morning
Bible study and residents and guests
enjoyed coffeetime together. Ice fishing
was an interesting topic for afternoon
discussion. The local news was read
Friday morning to interested individuals
and bingo was played in the afternoon..
Evening and Saturday entertainments
include card games, movies, game shows,
etc. Hee Haw and the Lawrence Welk Show
are the favorites on the weekends.
The United Church had the Sunday
morning Bible study and afternoon
worship service.
The guest

time during the remodeling so the list
is short this week. Included are Carolyn
and Stan Billings and Janice Ratliff
with Guy Billings; Raymond and Bertha
Meyer of Bertrand, Neb., Gerald Bethke
of Stuttgart and Vernon Kuhlmann with
Doris Kuhlmann; LeRoy and Joyce Keim
