Postponed BB Games to
be Played Thursday
Classes at Thunder Ridge Schools were
called off last Friday because of the
snowstorm and the evening basketball
games were postponed. The high school
games with Palco will be played
Thursday, Feb. 19 at the regular time.
The KAYS will have the scheduled
Parents' Night.
The final
basketball game of the regular season
before tournaments will be Friday, Feb.
20 with Western Plains on the home
court. Come and support the Longhorns!

Open House at
Wellness Center Saturday
The annual meeting of the HOME
Charitable Foundation will be held at
the Wellness Center Saturday, Feb. 21 at
4 p.m. It will also give those attending
an opportunity to see what the Wellness
Center has to offer. Sign-ups will be
taken for a year's membership to the
Wellness Center, but you must be present
to win. Everyone is encouraged and
invited to attend.

Five Stars for
Prairie Haven
The
Kensington community should be very
proud that Prairie Haven is one of
several nursing homes in the state of
Kansas that has been named a 5-Star
Nursing Home. The management and staff
should be commended for achieving this
excellent award. Their dedication and
hard work is paying off.

Senior Center
Notes
Seniors Crown Valentine King and
Queen
Fourteen were present
at the annual Valentine's party Saturday
afternoon, Feb. 14. Marlene Kuhlmann was
elected queen and Gilbert Kuhlmann was
chosen as king and were crowned at
special ceremonies. Armi McPherson read
selected pieces about Valentine's day. A
variety of cookies along with other
sweets were served with punch and
coffee. The King and Queen played pool
along with Leonard Schultz and Al
Lambert. Everyone had a delightful time.
February birthdays will be
celebrated Thursday noon, Feb. 19. The
Food Pantry will be open Saturday, Feb.
21 from 1 to 3 p.m. Pinochle will be
played Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. The
land and home auction of the Lucille
Schoeni estate will be at the Center
Thursday, Feb. 26.
A St..
Patrick's Day celebration will be
Sunday, March 15 with a special Irish
menu served at noon. Donations will be
taken. Watch for details!

at the pitch games on Feb. 12 were Sandy
Powell having high score, Nadine Louise
McCormick, low, and Lois Hrabe with the
most 13's. There were 15 players.

Deaths of Local
Interest
Death of Kenneth Wynn
Kenneth Wynn, 82, of Kensingon died
Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Smith
County Hospital. He was a truck driver.
Survivors are his daughters,
Becky Saddler and husband John of Agra
and Barbara Gaines and husband Tharran
of Savannah, Mo.; four grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Tuesday morning at the
United Church of Kensington. A graveside
service with burial followed at the
Mount Hope Cemetery in Almena.

No 3 on 3 BB Tournament this Year
The Chet Kuhlmann Memorial 3 on
3 Basketball Tournament will not be held
in Kensington this year according to a
family member.

Kates Enjoy Bingo Games
Eight members and four guests met Monday
evening, Feb. 9, at the First St. John
Activity Center. After a fun evening of
playing bingo, all four guests decided
to become members.
The yearbooks
were handed out and plans for each month
were discussed. Darlene Miller reported
on the Food Pantry which the Kates host
on the third Saturday of each month from
1 to 3 p.m. at the Community/Senior
Center unless the Center is rented for
another purpose. Ruth Bienhoff will
place posters each month in the Post
Office, Grocery Store, and Country
Corner. Donations have been generous in
both food supplies and monetary
donations which are very much
appreciated.
The Club planned to
attend the Arts Council program at Smith
Center Sunday, Feb. 15 and will car pool
from the grocery store with refreshments
following at Jiffy Burger. It was also
planned to attend the musical at the
Minden Opera House in late March.
A dessert of brownies and ice cream
was served at the close of the meeting.

Prairie Haven
Royalty Crowned
Prairie
Haven's king and queen this year are
Carson Atchison and Clara Beckmann who
were crowned at the party Friday
afternoon, Feb. 13. Also honored were
those having February birthdays.
Residents are Florence McGinnis, Doris
Kuhlmann, and Leah Crowley. Gail Dodds
is the only employee with a February
birthday.
Hair stylings and nail
care was done on Monday after the usual
fun and fitness exercises. One-one
sessions are held daily. Trivia was
Monday afternoon's entertainment. Bingo
was played Tuesday afternoon.
The adopted grandchildren (third and
fourth graders from Thunder Ridge Middle
School at Agra) came to visit Wednesday
morning. Everyone had a good time. First
ladies were discussed in the afternoon
along with trivia.
The Heartland
Worship Center had the Thursday morning
Bible study followed by fellowship,
cookies, and coffee. The history of
valentine's day was given in the
afternoon.
February birthdays
were celebrated Friday afternoon along
with a valentine party and the crowning
ceremonies.
Evening and Saturday
entertainment included card games,
putting puzzles together, and watching
game shows, Hee Haw, and the Lawrence
Welk Show.
The United Church of
Kensington had the Sunday morning Bible
class and afternoon worship.
Sympathy is extended to the family of
Kenneth Wynn who was a resident a very
short time. He will be missed by
residents and staff.
No
permanent place has been designated for
the visitor registry with the
remodeling, so not many sign their name.
You are invited to come in and see all
the changes. Those signing the registry

Heather Schemper; Ora Elliott with Zelda
Elliott; Kenneth Ratliff with Pearl
