Kensington Community News
December 28th, 2009
To all of our
readers--I wish you a very happy and
blessed New Year. I hope our year will
bring more "ups" than "downs." Let us
continue our strife for peace, not only
among nations, but also among ourselves.
May God be with you all!! Your
correspondent, Ruth Bienhoff
Thanks to all the good people in our
communities. You are the greatest as has
been demonstrated in the prayers and
assistance given to those that are in
need of help and healing. Also,
appreciation for the many kind deeds
performed in our neighborhoods during
the snowstorms this month. How wonderful
it is to have someone clean our walks
and driveways, offer a ride when the
streets are icy, or offer a hand when
you are fearing the slick sidewalks. The
phone calls to inquire if everything is
o.k. are also special. These deeds are
priceless and we cherish living among
you. God bless you all!!

Many
Events Cancelled
The snowstorm which moved in on Dec. 23
forced many postponements and
cancellations of Christmas eve worship
services. Family dinners, gatherings and
visits also took some "hits" when family
members from a distance were forced to
cancel road trips.
St. John Lutheran Church (north)
cancelled their Christmas Eve Children's
program and Christmas morning worship.
The children presented their postponed
program during the worship hour Sunday
morning to an appreciative congregation.
The teachers and helpers in charge were
Robin Billings, Joyce Grauerholz, Tara
Seemann, and Melissa Westbrook with
Wanda Rahjes as accompanist. James and
Sarah Molzahn and baby Addison portrayed
the Holy Family. The service concluded
with scripture readings and the singing
of carols.

About 75 relatives and friends gathered
for lunch at the Kensington

McPherson along with others arranged the

the blessing before the meal from the
nutrition site was served. Ice cream
with birthday cake was enjoyed after the
main course was finished.
Several friends and relatives spoke
briefly "Remembering when?" in telling

High Sycombe, England, as their guests
over Christmas. The Morris' were the
host couple when Luke visited in England
last year. They arrived in Denver on
Dec. 23, and Luke was taking them to
Denver Sunday for their return flight.
Needless to say they got a good taste of
a Kansas snowstorm. Mrs. Morris said
they were looking forward to a white
Christmas, but they had enough.
Christmas day dinner guests of Arthur
and Betty Smith of Athol were Stanley
and Kim Smith, Deb Smith, Brock and
Julie Hutchinson and four children of
Smith Center; Blake Smith of Lincoln,

Bienhoff and Troy Zwartz of Des Moines,
Iowa, and Jennifer Bruns of Clarkfield,
Minn., from making their planned trips.
John and Tonya Bienhoff and Jessica
Tiner and Bennett of Fayetteville, Ark.,
phoned their Christmas wishes. Nick
Levin was unable to be present because
of his work schedule.
Folks from the Highland community north
of Athol might be interested to know
that Ardith (McClure) Jones of Franklin,
Neb., received a Christmas letter from
Opal Richards who grew up in that area.
Opal is 98 1/2 years old and lives in a
nursing home in California. She had
never married. Opal and her brother and
sister, George and Rose, both deceased,
all graduated from Athol High School.
The Kensington Community School Library
will be open Saturday morning, Jan. 2,
weather permitting. Regular hours will
resume on Jan. 4.
Prairie Haven notes are not available
this week.
What a difference 24 hours makes!! As
this is written Monday afternoon, the
sun is shining brightly and the ice has
melted on most of the sidealks and
streets are a sloppy mess.. The
dispositions of the folk on the streets
have certainly changed as they are able
to get back to some semblance of
normalcy. The side roads are very muddy
and chores are a muddy mess, but we are
thankful for a reprieve before the next
cold front hits later this week;
however, not much snow is forecasted.
Have a Happy New Year.
