Fun Time at Old Fashioned Saturday Night
It was warm and humid, but there was a
nice breeze to make it more comfortable
as the crowd assembled for the Old
Fashioned Saturday Night in Kensington.
It had been cloudy, but no one
anticipated a shower of rain at 6 p.m.
shortly before the parade started. It
didn't last long as folks gathered under
the available awnings to stay dry. The
sun came out and produced some beautiful
rainbows in the eastern sky and a drop
of about ten degrees in the temperature
for a perfect celebration.
SWIMFEST--The afternoon had begun at
4:30 p.m. with the swimfest at the
swimming pool planned by the pool
manager, Ashli Bertholf, and her crew.
Winners in various categories are listed
as first, second, and third places and

youngsters participated in the Kiddie/Pet
Parade with the KAYS in charge. Each
child was presented a dollar bill by the
Farmers National Bank. Winners were

Reynolds, Owen Hrabe, Kaleb and Konner

Dodds, Abby and Elizabeth Hardacre with
Lilly Beach; Sydni and Iva Rust; Kyler
Seemann, Sadie and Shane Linton, Kendra
Billings, Courtney Miller, Lakin and
Layne Pettijohn, Cameron Grauerholz,
Zach Wallgren, Erin Clements and Amaya
Michael.
VARIETIES OF FOOD--A number of different
foods were introduced along the food
court this year to tempt all appetites.
Perhaps the favorites were still the
Lions Club's hamburgers which were still
priced at one dollar, the brats and
polish sausages, and the homemade ice
cream featured by the Busy Bees 4-H
Club. A number of contests were held and
the dunk tank was a favorite for the
teenagers. The Legion Beer Garden was
also popular on the warm summer evening.
ENTERTAINMENT--The Future Sapphire
Dancers, about 40 in number, coached by
the Thunder Ridge Sapphire Dancers,
dressed in their blue tee-shirts
delivered their dancing talents to the
delight of the audience.
Also featured were the Thunder Ridge
Middle School Cheerleaders. They are
Caitlynn Boden, Erika Norris, Jenna
Dennis, Brianna Shaw, Miranda Atchison,
Alexandria Randall, and Heidi Larson.
Their sponsor is Kathi Boden.
The Thunder Ridge High School
Cheerleaders led some cheers and
performed some elaborate pyramids. They
are Ryanne Rahjes, Sammy Krueger,
Madeline Reneberg, Brittany Kirchhoff,
Amber Schmid, and Jackie Reneberg and
are also sponsored by Kathi Boden.
The Sapphire Dancers entertained with
some lively routines in their sparkling
new outfits. Members are Cheyenne
Grauerholz, Deveony Coomes, Kayla
Linton, Kelsey Atchison, Larissa Dettmer,
Breck Miner, and Ashley Struckhoff and
their coach is Jennifer Dodds.
The time passed quickly with visiting
and reminscing. until the fireworks
display at the Football Field was set
off by the Kensington Volunteer Fire
Department. With the earlier rain, the
danger of fire was greatly diminished
and everyone could appreciate the
beautiful show.
The evening concluded with a street
dance with music by the Three Jacks who
had provided music throughout the
evening.
It was another enjoyable evening in
Kensington made possible by the
Kensington Commercial Club and the many
organizations and individuals who helped
by promoting the event as well as the
many folks who came together for an
evening of "old fashioned fun."
