Meet the New
Pro-Ag Manager
James
Jirak of Girard is the new Pro-Ag
manager beginning April 1, 2009. Mr.
Jarek grew up in the farming community
of Tampa, KS, and graduated from Centre
High School, a small consolidated
school, located at Lost Springs. He
graduated from Ft. Hays State University
with a degree in agriculture. He has
worked with ethanol and was employed as
National Director of Industry Relations
for EPIC in Girard.
He met his
wife, Sandy who grew up at Tipton, at
Ft. Hays. She is a stay-at-home mom, but
has worked as an RN in pediatrics. They
are the parents of five children,
Monica, 10; Dominic, 8; Isaac, 6;
Elizabeth, 4; and Rachel, 14 months.
The primary concern of the family is
finding a suitable home for their
family. They will be temporarily living
in one of the hunting lodges owned by
Jon and Linda Ferguson north of
Kensington when the family moves here
after school is out. They would prefer a
house in the country and would
appreciate anyone having suggestions to
tell them.
Mr. Jirak is thrilled
at the warm welcome he has received into
the community which is similar to the
area where he and his wife grew up. They
are excited to spend the summer getting
acquainted and enrolling their children
into Thunder Ridge Schools in the fall.
He enjoys visiting and getting
acquainted with his patrons and invites
them to stop in at the office when he is
available..

Around the Community
Margaret Stockton was moved out of
ICU and back to the Debackey Heart
Institute in Hays Friday. She continues
to struggle with some health issues, but
is making daily progress.
Teresa
Smith was able to come home from the
Shawnee Mission Hospital last week. She
enjoys telephone calls and short visits.
Lola Peters, Kensington's oldest
citizen who celebrated her 100th
birthday earlier this year, is now a
resident at Prairie Haven.
Sandy
and Michele Powell left Kensington early
on April 1 to board a bus tour at the
Bicentennial Center in Salina at 8:30
a.m. They traveled to Overland Park for
a gourmet buffet and to see the musical
matinee, "Hats," at the New Theatre
Restaurant in the afternoon. They
reported a fast, but a very enjoyable
day.
Evelyn Levin accompanied
Otto and Cheryl Levin to Manhattan for
the Palm Sunday weekend. They were
houseguests of Cheryl's mother, Dru
Barker. All were able to make the
acquaintance of the new baby, Jared R.
Kennedy in Wamego. Other visitors were
Pam Thompson and Tony Thompson and
friend of Paola and Erin Caley of
Manhattan.
George and Sandy
Powell were in Colby Sunday evening to
watch their grandson, Matthew A. Teselle,
and Taylor Kuhlmann of Thunder Ridge
High School play in the All-Star
Basketball Game at 7 p.m.
The
wind continues to blow, but we have not
had any of the snow that by-passed us
again to the north over the weekend. The
temps have been cold which discourages
the spring farm work and gardening. We
hope the possibility of another weather
front coming into the area mid-week will
be our lucky one and bring us much
needed moisture.
