Around the Community
Margaret Stockton entered the Smith
County Hospital Thursday where she was
treated for pneumonia and other
complications. On Sunday she was
transferred to the Hays Regional Medical
Center for treatment of congestive heart
failure.
Gary Hainke has been
transferred to the rehab unit at Good
Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.,
where he is receiving extensive therapy.
Vince and Victor Mazzarella called
their grandmother, Lois Hrabe, to share
the news that their rugby team at the
Colorado School of Mines won the west
regional rugby tournament and advanced
to the rugby nationals held in Orlando,
Florida, last week. Their team competed
with other college rugby teams from
across the U.S. This is the first time
in forty years that the School of Mines
rugby team played at nationals. Vince
and Victor, who are junior students at
the Colorado School of Mines, have
played on the Mines rugby team the past
three years.
Maria Seemann
recently accompanied Martin and Tara
Seemann, Aleah, Andrea, and Kyler to
Kansas City where they were joined by
Louis and Kristi Seemann, Alex, Ariel,
and Ava for a weekend at the Great Wolf
Lodge. The family planned this as a
special early celebration for Maria's
80th birthday which was April 22.
A 3 on 3 basketball tournament was
held in the Kensington gym last Saturday
and Sunday with the boys competing on
Saturday and the girls playing on
Sunday. No other details have been
provided.
Denis and Wilma Sweat
have been very busy traveling lately.
They were at Salina for the Easter Vigil
Mass where David’s wife, Michelle,
joined the Catholic Church. The
following weekend they traveled to
Colorado to visit Paul, Apryl, and
Martin Sweat. Paul has been finishing
his basement and is getting pretty well
done. Wilma had made some drapes for
them and took them out, and wanted to
see what they’d all done.
The
weekend of the 25th & 26th, the Sweats
traveled to Overland Park to attend
their grandson Adam Sweat’s, First
Communion, on Saturday. He is the son of
Stephen and Sarah Sweat. On Sunday, they
visited Brenda and Joe Rongish, and
celebrated Kaitlyn’s 3rd birthday, which
is the 28th.
Denis and Wilma
hope to travel again on Mother’s Day
weekend. Nathan Rongish, Brenda and
Joe’s son, will make his First Communion
on Saturday at Lenexa; and on Sunday,
Brent Coats, Glen and Sharon’s son, will
make his First Communion at Emporia.
Pastor Patsy Koeneke of St. John
Lutheran Church attended the wedding of
her daughter, Kelly, in Phoenix last
Saturday. She was happy to also visit
with her elderly mother who lives in
Phoenix and with her son, wife and
grandson who live in California. She
also will attend a conference in
Atchison for several days. Paul Bienhoff
led the worship in her absence. She will
return later this week.
Wednesday supper and overnight guests of
Ruth Bienhoff were Elton and Dot
Haarberg of Colorado Springs who were
enroute to Virginia to visit their son,
David.
Dennis and Judy Graf of
Bassett, Neb., were in Kensington
checking up on old friends. They had
come for the funeral of Lee Matteson in
Phillipsburg on Tuesday.
It was
an extreme weather change when a front
came through Friday afternoon dropping
temperatures from a "hot" 90 degrees and
shorts apparel to a cold 40 degrees and
sweat shirt and coats. The front failed
to bring any measureable moisture;
however, severe weather with tornadoes,
destructive winds, hail and heavy rain
hit south and east of us. We are glad to
escape these adverse conditions, but
would appreciate a nice rain in the near
future.
Remember these five
simple rules to be happy: 1. Free your
heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind
from worries. 3. Live simply. 4. Give
more. 5. Expect less.
