It
is a time to tread softly when speaking to
farmers as they are anxiously awaiting dryer
weather to finish drilling the wheat and get
to the fall harvest. This area has been
fortunate that the rains have been in lesser
amounts than further east where draws are
running and terraces are full of water and no
hail or high winds have been reported. The
amounts have been much less further west where
nice rains would be greatly appreciated.
It
is reported that there are still many acres of
wheat to be planted in this area, but almost
nightly rains keep the farmers hoping for
sunshine and drying breezes. Some soybeans and
corn have been harvested, but the milo is
still carrying too much moisture. A killing
frost is not in the forecast at this time
although the temperatures are quite chilly as
this is written Monday.

To
commerate National Fire Protection and Safety
Week the students from Kindergarten thru Grade
6 were given fire truck rides last Friday
morning. Fireman Darren Grauerholz was at the
wheel, and the sirens blowing full blast as
the children were driven around town. It was a
fun morning despite the light drizzle which
fell intermittently during the morning.

A
special meeting of the SITE Council was called
to order by Chairman Bobbi Struckhoff Monday,
Oct. 8. The purpose was to discuss what should
be done with the Goldbug Memorabilia following
the current school year. Mrs. Struckhoff
distributed the "Building Proposal' that was
presented to the Sons of the American Legion
and a compilation of suggestions received via
e-mail and in the boxes.
Following much discussion, a motion was made
that a temporary location for storage of the
memorabilia be found with a goal in mind of a
historical building to house the items
permanently. It was seconded and it carried.
Discussion then centered around possible
funding and grant options.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov.
5 at 6:30 p.m.
